The graphics in this game are spectacular in places, looking like they have come straight out of a painting. You open the game rowing to shore across a very scenic fjord. That being said, I felt that the developers could have fleshed out the storyline a little further to make the game a little longer and more engaging. I did find that the game was quite short however, there is obviously complexity in having a lengthy ame with very little person-to-person interaction. The game menu features a traditional Scandinavian-sounding tune which is hauntingly beautiful to hear and is a prominent feature compositionally. The music is noteworthy by award-winning composer Simon Poole (who also composed for the Dreamfall series). This game was partially funded by the Norwegian Film Institute which shows, in the attention to detail in the scenery. If you’re hoping for an engrossing ride, some eye candy, and a good dose of Norwegian folklore, Draugen is sure not to disappoint.Draugen is a first-person mystery game with aspects of survival horror where you play as Edward Harden from the 1920’s who travels with his young ward, Lissie, from the USA to Draugen, a sleepy town in Norway, in an attempt to find your sister.ĭraugen is brought out by Red Thread Games who are an independent Norwegian game developing company, previously known for their Dreamfall series. It’s hard to look away in Graavik, even at times that you truly want to. With a hauntingly beautiful score, great scenery, and a gripping story, Draugen is an enthralling three or four-hour story about trauma and mental illness which plays out like a movie that players can control themselves. This places the story’s final answers in the player’s lap, for us to decide for ourselves. ![]() Sometimes, the pieces to the puzzle don’t quite fit together. While some may consider the ending unsatisfying, the tale of Graavik leaves a lot open to interpretation. The story of Draugen, upon reaching its conclusion, appears fairly open-ended. Here at PC Invasion, we believe in a spoiler-free environment, so forgive the forthcoming vagueries. The creepy tale of Graavik unfolds as Edward and Lissie press forward in their exploration in Draugen. This can be a welcome break from the forced exposition and narration in most of today’s thrillers. As the player uncovers more clues to the mystery of the disappearing town, the story becomes clearer.ĭraugen tells a compelling story almost entirely via player discoveries. ![]() With her upbeat attitude, she provides a stark contrast to the innate creepiness of the environment. Lissie serves as more than a highlight in the gloomy psychological thriller. ![]() Given the feeling at times, it’s more than welcome. The witty banter between Lissie and Edward serves to bring some lightness into the gloom of Draugen. With shadows appearing out of nowhere, doors closing on their own, and more, the village of Graavik will certainly give the average gamer a major case of the spooks. That said, the story and atmosphere offer players an increasingly creepier progression. This is undeniably a game for the curious. Draugen has players thoroughly searching houses, reading every note left by the now-absent villagers and finding clues to push forward. The team must leave no stone unturned in their quest for answers. This incredibly detailed 1920s Norwegian village isn’t all glamour, however. Draugen opens big, with a haunting emptiness contrasting the natural beauty of Norway.
